Death driver is cleared by jury
A BUS driver who run over and killed a pedestrian walked free from court after he was cleared of careless driving.
Michael Aspland, 61, collided with 28-year-old Ivo Zoia as he drove his double-decker back to the depot at the end of a shift on April 21st last year.
Mr Zoia was walking down the centre of the road on his way home from a party and stepped into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
Aspland, of Wallington, Surrey, was accused of falling below the standard of “careful and competent” driver but was cleared of causing death by careless driving by an Old Bailey jury after insisting he had been driving with due care and attention.
