‘Pi­rate’ drowns on record beach


A MAN drowned when the tide came in af­ter fall­ing asleep on the beach just hours af­ter tak­ing part in a world record bid.

Tim Cas­tro ( one of the 14,231 rev­ellers who dressed up as a pi­rates to set a new world record of the Most Pi­rates in one Place.

But the 22-year-old me­chanic’s body was found the next morn­ing, just hours af­ter the new world record was set in Hast­ings, East Susse – beat­ing the pre­vi­ous record of 8,740 pi­rates set in Pen­zance, Corn­wall, last year.

Tim’s par­ents Ion and Sue Cas­tro said they be­lieve their son died in a tragic ac­ci­dent, say­ing: “We think he fell asleep on the beach and the tide came in. It’s dev­as­tat­ing for us.”
