Estate agent jailed after rugby brawl
AN estate agent has been jailed for punching a rugby player so hard he suffered brain damage and lost his sense of TASTE and SMELL.
Alex Rogers, 34, ( above) kicked and punched Tim Surridge with such force he was lifted off his feet and had his skull fractured.
Psychiatric nurse Mr Surridge, 31, also sustained a broken cheekbone and internal head bleeding and can no longer play rugby.
The fight happened at Cullompton Rugby Club in Devon, where the two attended separate functions.
Rogers claimed that Mr Surridge was a gatecrasher, intent on causing trouble.
CCTV shows an initial brawl where Rogers kicked and punched Mr Surridge, before they moved apart.
Dad-of-two Rogers then took a two-step run-up and landed a haymaker punch which knocked Mr Surridge out cold.
Rogers, of Uffculme, Devon, who was found guilty of GBH at an earlier trial, was jailed for 18 months at Exeter Crown Court.
