Es­tate agent jailed af­ter rugby brawl

AN es­tate agent has been jailed for punch­ing a rugby player so hard he suf­fered brain dam­age and lost his sense of TASTE and SMELL.

Alex Rogers, 34, ( above) kicked and punched Tim Sur­ridge with such force he was lifted off his feet and had his skull frac­tured.

Psy­chi­atric nurse Mr Sur­ridge, 31, also sus­tained a bro­ken cheek­bone and in­ter­nal head bleed­ing and can no longer play rugby.

The fight hap­pened at Cul­lomp­ton Rugby Club in Devon, where the two at­tended sep­a­rate func­tions.

Rogers claimed that Mr Sur­ridge was a gate­crasher, in­tent on caus­ing trou­ble.

CCTV shows an ini­tial brawl where Rogers kicked and punched Mr Sur­ridge, be­fore they moved apart.

Dad-of-two Rogers then took a two-step run-up and landed a hay­maker punch which knocked Mr Sur­ridge out cold.

Rogers, of Uf­fculme, Devon, who was found guilty of GBH at an ear­lier trial, was jailed for 18 months at Ex­eter Crown Court.
