Bag snatch thief feels weight of the law
A PROLIFIC thief who was pinned to the floor by builders as he attempted to flee with a stolen handbag and mobile phone has been jailed for 19 months.
Akil Bradford, 34, was caught by the two passers-by and held until police arrived after he was pulled off his bike.
He wrenched the bag from 35-year-old estate agent Joanne Bevan’s hands and grabbed her mobile phone after leaning in through the passenger side window of her car in Ladbrooke Grove, west London.
Drug addict Bradford, who has 43 convictions for stealing from cars and a further 12 for theft, was slapped with a five-year ASBO in 2010 barring him from Manchester city centre.
When he was arrested after the theft on June 25 this year, officers found tools used for breaking in to cars in his pocket.
Bradford, of Ladbrooke Grove, pleaded guilty to theft and breaching his ASBO at Southwark Crown Court.
Judge John Price told him: “You have 43 convictions for stealing items from cars and at least 11 for stealing from the person.
“Your previous convictions mean that when you are on drugs you are a complete menace to people with cars.”
