AINS AIMS FOR RECOVERY

SAILING

Midweek Sport - - THURSDAY AUG 1 -

BEN AINSLIE was left sifting through the wreckage of his bid to deliver a fourth successive sailing gold.

The GB star has dominated the Finn class – but his era of dominance looks to be over after frustrating day in Weymouth.

Ainslie has four more races to salvage his dream – but he has so far failed to beat current leader Jonas Hogh- Christensen in any of the opening six contests.

Today is a rest day, but Ainslie knows it will take a massive effort to turn the competition around.

Brit duo Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson had more joy in the Star class.

But Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes were left stunned in the 49er class when they capsized and lie ninth overall.

GB Olympics debutant Ali Young maintained a good start with a second place in the day’s first Laser Radial battle, which was won by Ireland’s Annalise Murphy for the third race in succession.

Nick Dempsey in the RS:X class finished fifth and seventh to leave him fourth overall.
