MURRAY ON Andy hitting top form as

Midweek Sport - - THURSDAY AUG 1 -

ANDY MURRAY reckons he’s firing on all cylinders as he stepped up his bid for Olympic gold.

The dour Scot is determined to make up for his Wimbledon upset by delivering a medal in the 2012 tennis tournament. And he moved one step closer to clinching the singles crown with a straight sets win over Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen to move into the third round.

Murray was rarely troubled on the way to a 6-2 6-4 win in SW19.

And he will now face Wimbledon foe Marcus Baghdatis (left) third round.

Murray said: “I played well today. He didn’t start the match that well. Then he definitely started to play a lot better in the second set.

“I had the momentum for most of the match. I served well, especially in the second set, and I didn’t give him too many opportunities.
