A MAN has been arrested for an alleged assault -- on a police dog.

Brandon Shaw, 21, was nicked after being chased by cops on suspicion of car theft.

A police officer warned him to get on the ground or he’d set his dog Blek loose on him.

Shaw ran and tried to jump a four-foot-high fence, but fell and the dog, released by the cop, caught up him as he attempted to gather himself.

Police say Shaw punched the dog, grabbed its ears and appeared to bite it on the head.

He also struck the dog on the muzzle before running away, escaping down an alley in Superior, Wisconsin, but was later arrested in nearby Duluth.

Shaw faces charges of harassment of police and causing injury to animals and faces three years’ jail.
