Net pirate locked up

AN internet pirate who ran one of the world’s largest illegal movie websites has been jailed for four years.

Anton Vickerman set up surfthechannel, attracting more than 400,000 visitors a day and advertising revenues of at least £35,000 per month.

The site contained an index which linked users to illegal movies on another site.

And it allowed them to search for blockbuster films that were not yet on general release.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Judge John Evans blasted Vickerman’s inability to accept he had done anything wrong – describing him as the “most arrogant” defendant he had ever come across.

The 38-year-old, from Newcastle, was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud in June for “facilitating” copyright infringement. His wife Kelly, 39, was found not guilty on the same charge.
