Lollicops tackle Ladies’ Day louts
COPS are set to hand out lollipops to racegoers in a bid to reduce drunken fights at Ladies’ Day.
Humberside Police has paid for 10,000 lollies to be given to drinkers during the summer – with thousands expected to be handed out today at Beverley Racecourse.
The theory behind it is that drunk thugs find it hard to be tough and macho when sucking on a sweet and it is also impossible to yell.
A poster showing a woman slumped in a bus stop has also been produced, with the slogan “stay a lady all day”.
Superintendent Darren Downs, from East Riding, said: “The purpose of handing out lollipops to drinkers is to reduce rowdy activity, antisocial behaviour and increase a calmer environment when leaving the venue.”
