Vigilante in drag caged for assault

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

A CAGEFIGHTER who found fame after flooring yobs while dressed in drag has been jailed for beating up his female cousin.

Daniel “Lionheart” Lerwell, 25, hit the headlines in 2009 when he and a pal were captured on CCTV clobbering troublemakers while wearing fishnets.

The clip went around the world and led to a spate of TV appearances.

But Lerwell, from Swansea, was sent to prison for four months after attacking Rebecca Lerwell on New Year’s Day – punching, kicking and throwing shoes at her.

Lerwell, who denied the charge, said: “I pushed her back because I thought she was going to hit me.

“My mother heard what she said and started fighting with her, and I broke it up.

“I did push her, but no way did I punch or kick that girl.”

Swansea Magistrates found Lerwell guilty of common assault. He was jailed and given a restraining order not to contact his cousin.
