CLINT COULD RALLY REDS

Midweek Sport - - THURSDAY AUGUST 23 - By IAN WINROW

CLINT DEMPSEY would be the perfect fit at Liverpool according to former Everton striker Brian McBride.

Dempsey is locked in a bitter dispute with Fulham after setting his heart on a switch to Anfield. So far, the Merseyside club have yet to lodge a formal offer for the US international.

But McBride – a former teammate of Dempsey at Fulham and with the US national team – is convinced the Texan has got what it takes to slot into Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool revolution.

He said: “If you’re asking me if I think Clint can succeed at Liverpool, for sure. He’s got not only the talent and the ability but he’s a very determined person.

“He adapts extremely well to so many different situations.

“He’s had four or five different coaches, but he’s always put his head down and shows them what he’s made of.

“That’s a sign of not only a good player but one that’s able to adapt.”

Cottagers boss Martin Jol has grown frustrated at the behaviour of both Liverpool and Dempsey this summer.

And the striker was fined after refusing to take part in Fulham’s pre-season preparations.

But the boss opened the door for Dempsey to return after his side’s 5-0 win at home to Norwich.
