LOUIS SAHA is aiming to help end 40 years of trophy hurt for Sunderland.

The Black Cats last tasted success in a major trophy by lifting the FA Cup way back in 1973.

Saha would love to play a par t in helping to end that long barren run after the ex-Spurs, Everton and Manchester United striker joined on a 12-month deal.

The 34-year-old Fr ench star made his debut in the morale-boosting opening day stalemate at Arsenal as the Black Cats gear up for Satur day’s visit by newly-promoted Reading.

Saha – a Champions League and double Pr emier League winner – reckons Mar tin O’Neill’s men could be an outside bet in the cups this season, and he said: “I know it’s a long time since Sunderland won anything, but I want to win trophies at every club I play for.

“If we could reach the FA Cup final or the final of any cup, that would be nice.”

Saha has suffered many injury problems during his career but has targeted a 15-goal haul this term.

He added: “I can do that if I stay injury-free. I can do it, but I know it doesn’t matter what you say, it’s what you do out there on the pitch.”
