A CHEF died in a massive fireball as he tried to burn down a kebab shop in a bungled insurance scam, a jury heard.
Married dad-of-two Fiaz Ansari died when Kams Grill in Leicester was destroyed by the blast. His body was found by builders the next day.
Fiaz, 41, had a financial interest in the failing business, where he worked, and had spread a rumour someone had threatened to burn it down, it was claimed.
He recruited employee Shahbaaz Khan and friend Mehwish Yasin, both 25, to assist him. The pair appeared at Leicester Crown Court to deny Fiaz’s manslaughter and reckless arson.
The court heard Fiaz took out £250,000 “business interruption” cover shortly before he and Khan started the fire in the kitchen using 17 litres of petrol.
The trial continues.
