Fergie tribute gets go-ahead
MANCHESTER United won planning permission to erect a statue of Sir Alex Ferguson outside their Old Trafford stadium.
The 9ft sculpture will be placed outside the North Stand – recently renamed after the Reds’ boss (
The club announced last year that it had commissioned the tribute.
It will stand on a plinth and be similar to those of Sir Matt Busby and the ‘holy trinity’ of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton at the stadium – also sculpted by Scotsman Philip Jackson.
Mr Jackson, 68, said: “I have met Sir Alex on a number of occasions and he is a very nice chap.
“He came down to see the clay sculpture and he seemed very pleased.”
