A COUNCIL is offering sex advice leaflets for PENSIONERS – after a sharp rise in the number of OAPs having ONE NIGHT STANDS.

Croydon Borough Council was told the over 60s should be warned about the dangers of “sleeping around” and having casual sex.

Labour Councillor Maggie Mansell said pensioners were “fitter” and “more active” than ever before and urged the council to produce a “Sex at 60” pamphlet.

She said that older people were “taking on more sexual partners” and having more casual sex, adding: “They started their sex lives after the pill and before Aids and did not get used to using condoms.

“The over 60s do not need contraception but they do need modern advice.”

The leaflet will target the over 60s to warn them how casual sex can lead to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

A 2010 report from the Health Protection Agency found the age group between 45 to 64 had the biggest rise in syphilis, herpes, chlamydia and genital warts between 2000 and 2009.

They also saw the second-biggest rise in gonorrhea cases, beaten only by the over 65s.

Cases of syphilis in 45 to 64 year-olds rose ten-fold from just 52 in 2000 to 503 in 2009.
