£16M MAN STILL PART
BRENDAN RODGERS says Jordan Henderson can still carve out a future at Liverpool – despite almost being dumped on Fulham in the transfer window.
Henderson, 22, was snapped up in a £16million deal from Sunderland as part of Kenny Dalglish’s big spend last summer.
He was a regular last season as the Reds stuttered to an eighth-place finish in the league. But he only had his first taste of Premier League action as a sub in the 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at the weekend.
Henderson, who has won five England caps, had previously been restricted to outings in the Europa League under new boss Rodgers.
And, as the new manager grew desperate to get Clint Dempsey on board towards the end of the last transfer window, he even tried to push Henderson to Craven Cottage.
Rodgers has brought in Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin to add to his midfield options and has promoted Jonjo Shelvey past Henderson.
And the Kop chief admits that clashes like tonight’s game against West Brom offer Henderson a chance to carve out a spot in his plans.
