Naismith facing ban

Midweek Sport - - THURSDAY SEPT 27 - By ANGUS REID

STEVEN NAISMITH could miss the World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Belgium next month after FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against him.

Naismith faces a potential three-match ban over an alleged elbow on Srdan Mijailovic in the game against Serbia.

Television pictures showed the Everton player raising his arm towards Mijailovic in an incident that wasn’t included in the referee’s report. A FIFA statement read: “We have opened proceedings against Steven Naismith.

“The case will be on the agenda for the disciplinary committee on October 5.

“The SFA have until the end of this week to provide FIFA with their position regarding the case.”
