Boozy cap­tain crashes ship

A DRUNK cap­tain asked cops, “Can I have an­other go?” af­ter twice ram­ming lock­gates with his 30,000ton ship.

Vi­atch­eslav Poleshchuk, 44, hit the Goole port lock gates once ma­noeu­vring RMS Bell hav­ing downed a bot­tle of vodka. He ig­nored warn­ings and, de­scribed as “all over the place”, did it a sec­ond time.

The 350-foot-long ship was loaded with scrap metal at the time of the col­li­sions, and Poleshchuk was more than four times over the drink drive limit as he headed for the Hum­ber be­fore be­ing ar­rested.

When quizzed by po­lice about he drunk­enly replied: “Can I have an­other go?”

At Hull Crown Court Poleshchuck of Ros­tov, Rus­sia, pleaded guilty to a charge of be­ing over the limit for a ship’s mas­ter.

The judge re­manded him in cus­tody for a week pend­ing sen­tence.
