Boozy captain crashes ship
A DRUNK captain asked cops, “Can I have another go?” after twice ramming lockgates with his 30,000ton ship.
Viatcheslav Poleshchuk, 44, hit the Goole port lock gates once manoeuvring RMS Bell having downed a bottle of vodka. He ignored warnings and, described as “all over the place”, did it a second time.
The 350-foot-long ship was loaded with scrap metal at the time of the collisions, and Poleshchuk was more than four times over the drink drive limit as he headed for the Humber before being arrested.
When quizzed by police about he drunkenly replied: “Can I have another go?”
At Hull Crown Court Poleshchuck of Rostov, Russia, pleaded guilty to a charge of being over the limit for a ship’s master.
The judge remanded him in custody for a week pending sentence.
