Brits get millions of dodgy texts

Midweek Sport - - FRONT PAGE -

PEOPLE in the UK get more spam text messages than anywhere else in the world.

Annoyed Brits are being bombarded with a record 235 million dodgy texts on 81 million phones every MONTH.

Lots of these come from Eastern European conmen who send texts asking for personal information, often saying their target is due a pay-out for Payment Protection Insurance (PPI).

If they respond, they’ll ask for payment up front and then fraudulently use the person’s credit card details.

Mary Landesman, researcher for security firm Cloudmark who carried out the poll, said: “They are, in effect, advanced fee frauds.

“My advice is to delete these texts immediately.”
