BRITAIN is going tattoo-crazy with more and more going under the needle to follow in the footsteps of their favourite celebs.

The number of tattoo parlours opening in the UK has doubled in the last three years, new figures show.

Pop star Rihanna, her ex-lover Chris Brown and actress Selena Gomez have all recently flaunted new designs on social networking websites.

And now their fans are flocking to get inked, too.

There has been a 112 per cent rise in tattoo parlour start-ups since 2009, business insurance provider Simply Business found.

In Scotland, the increase is a staggering 388 per cent and in London 263 per cent.

Jason Stockwood, from Simply Business, said: “The social perception of tattoos has changed as a result of media, celebrity and fashion trends.”

Rihanna had the Egyptian goddess Isis tattooed under her breasts and Gomez has number 76 on her neck in Roman numerals.
