Sex assault liar is fined
A WOMAN who tried to frame an innocent man for rape has escaped court action after being issued with an £80 fixed penalty.
The 21-year old had subjected a man, 27, to the ordeal of a police interview after she falsely claimed he had raped her on land behind a pub in Heywood, near Rochdale, Greater Manchester at 3am on Monday.
Detectives questioned the unnamed suspect under caution but he insisted they had a consensual one night stand together.
She then confessed she had made up her account when officers returned to speak to her.
But instead of facing a charge of perverting the course of justice, which could have landed her in prison, she was given the fixed penalty notice – often issued to nuisance drunks and fare dodgers.
