Sex as­sault liar is fined

A WOMAN who tried to frame an in­no­cent man for rape has es­caped court ac­tion af­ter be­ing is­sued with an £80 fixed penalty.

The 21-year old had sub­jected a man, 27, to the or­deal of a po­lice in­ter­view af­ter she falsely claimed he had raped her on land be­hind a pub in Hey­wood, near Rochdale, Greater Manch­ester at 3am on Mon­day.

De­tec­tives ques­tioned the un­named sus­pect un­der cau­tion but he in­sisted they had a con­sen­sual one night stand to­gether.

She then con­fessed she had made up her ac­count when of­fi­cers re­turned to speak to her.

But in­stead of fac­ing a charge of per­vert­ing the course of jus­tice, which could have landed her in prison, she was given the fixed penalty notice – of­ten is­sued to nui­sance drunks and fare dodgers.
