For­eign footie fans flock­ing to watch Prem

NEARLY a mil­lion tourists trav­elled to Bri­tain to watch the Premier League last year – spend­ing £706mil­lion in the process, fig­ures show.

VisitBri­tain says that 900,000 ‘football tourists’ took in a game while vis­it­ing and spent the equiv­a­lent of £785 per fan.

The re­search found that 40 per cent of for­eign fans go­ing to a football match said that watch­ing sport was the main rea­son for vis­it­ing the UK.

The Premier League is recog­nised as the world’s most ex­cit­ing com­pe­ti­tion, es­pe­cially af­ter last sea­son’s fi­nale.

Then Sergio Aguero (above) grabbed the ti­tle for Manch­ester City with vir­tu­ally the last kick of the sea­son.

Most football re­lated vis­its were made by guests from Ire­land (174,000), fol­lowed by Nor­way (80,000), USA (61,000), Spain (54,000) and Ger­many (48,000).

Nearly 20 per cent of vis­it­ing fans went to Old Traf­ford, closely fol­lowed by An­field.
