Cable has memory logjam
CONCERNS were growing for Vince Cable last night after he admitted a new committee to promote economic growth had not yet held any meetings – since it HAS, and he has attended TWICE!
The Business Secretary, vice chair of the Growth Implementation Committee, told the Commons select committee: “I can’t tell you why that committee has not been convened yet.”
Later, Mr Cable said he needed to “correct the record”.
He explained: “I readied my memory very quickly and I could not recall any meetings. There were in fact two, on September 18 and October 22, so that committee is operating and has met.”
A Commons source said: “The pressure may be getting to Vince but forgetting you’ve attended two committee meetings? Maybe the Prime Minister will suggest he takes it a bit easier from now on.”
Vince Cable is 69.
