Potty Vlaar has some balls
ASTON Villa skipper Ron Vlaar has been brushing up on his defensive game – thanks to some safety tips from Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Snooker loopy Vlaar is a long-time fan of “The Rocket” and got the chance to meet his sporting hero last week.
Holland ace Vlaar (left) got the chance to play alongside O’Sullivan as the “two Ronnies” took on “Whirlwind” Jimmy White and another snooker fan.
It came about thanks to his friendship with Dutch snooker referee Jan Verhaas.
“Snooker is so difficult but I really like it,” said Vlaar, whose highest break is 34.
“I just played billiards when I was young with my grandfather who had a small table and I started practising then.
“Snooker is not really that big back home in Holland and we only have Jan who is involved with the professional game.
“Jan and I got to play in an exhibition game with Ronnie and Jimmy.
“During the break between matches I played doubles – Ronnie and me against Jimmy and another guy – which was really fun. I felt pretty confident actually.
“I had sorted Jan out with some tickets for the Holland game in Rotterdam a few weeks back and he told me then there was this event.
“I started watching about 10 years ago when I saw Ronnie make a 147 break live.
“We were having dinner but I said to my mum, ‘Hold the meal – I have to see this!’”
