BIG AP­PLE GRAP­PLES WITH KILLER STORM

U.S. Pres­i­dent Barack Obama yes­ter­day de­clared a “ma­jor dis­as­ter” in New York state af­ter su­per­storm Sandy smashed into the coun­try’s East Coast, caus­ing flood­ing and cut­ting power to mil­lions.

A record 13ft tidal surge sent sea­wa­ter cas­cad­ing into large parts of the Big Ap­ple’s sub­way sys­tem.

Across the city, a power sub-sta­tion ex­ploded, a hospi­tal was evac­u­ated, fire de­stroyed 50 homes and a SHIP was washed up a street on Staten Is­land.

At least 20 peo­ple were re­ported dead across sev­eral states and at least eight mil­lion homes and busi­nesses were left with­out power. In all, about 50 mil­lion peo­ple have been af­fected by the storm, with up to a mil­lion or­dered to evac­u­ate.
