SEVEN stowaways – including four children – were rescued after being found locked inside a refrigerated lorry in -2C temperatures.

Officers from the UK Border Force discovered the freezing stowaways inside the lorry at Dunkirk.

The truck, registered in Slovakia, was carrying soft cheese and was on its way to Milton Keynes when it was stopped at the French port.

All four children, aged 9-16, and one of the adults were suffering from hypothermia and could have died if they had not been found in time.

Paul Morgan, Border Force Director for South East & Europe, said: “This incident shows the desperate lengths that people will go to in their attempts to reach the UK.

The Bulgarian driver was interviewed by French police but later released without charge.
