WE CAN KOP A TOP-FOUR SPOT
Sturridge insists Reds have proved their threat
DANIEL STURRIDGE is adamant that Liverpool have shown they can nab a top-four spot.
The Reds secured decent 2-2 draws at both Arsenal and champions Man City last week.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have still not taken the scalp of a top side in the Premier League this term.
And they remain nine points off fourth-placed Tottenham.
But Sturridge – who has bagged four goals in six games since joining from Chelsea – is eyeing a return to Europe’s top competition. He said: “In our last two games we have played against two great clubs and deserved to win both of them.
“We got two good results in fairness, even though in our hearts we know we should have had six points.
“But we didn’t lose, so hats off to the players for the character they showed.
“We’ll regroup and get ready for our next game against West Brom, which is another massive game for us because they are challenging for the top places. We are nine points off the top four so it’s not a massive gap to try to recoup.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to do that – we believe we can.
“We still have to play Chelsea and Tottenham at home, and the other teams challenging have to play each other, so hopefully we can win those home games and stamp our authority.”
Jonjo Shelvey has hailed Kop skipper Steven Gerrard as his “perfect role model” – after moving in next door.
England Under-21 and Reds midfielder Shelvey has just bought a house alongside the player he has always looked up to at Anfield.
And Shelvey said: “Steven has been first class with me ever since I came into the club.
“I’ve moved in next door to him now, which is even better because if I need any advice he is always there.
“I get to see him quite a bit. I’ve not popped around for a cup of tea yet but he is always welcome to come around for a game of pool.
“He’s just a great role model to learn from – you can’t say enough about Stevie. He does his talking on and off the pitch. He lives the life of a proper professional footballer.”
