BRITTON IS STAYING SWAN

Midweek Sport - - NEWS - By JON WEST

SWANSEA midfielder Leon Britton has signed a new deal tying him to the club until the summer of 2016.

The 30-year-old has been a big success in his 10 years at the Liberty Stadium as the Swans rose from League Two to the top flight.

And he followed top scorer Michu by signing a new deal before the Capital One Cup final with Bradford later this month.

Britton said: “I’d love nothing more than to finish my career here. It’s been my life for the last 10 years and there’s no other place I’d rather be playing my football.”

The former West Ham man has racked up 400 games for the Welshmen – and wants 100 more.

He said: “The target for me has always been 500 appearances. That will really be something special.

“I would like to think I can keep performing regularly in the first team for a few more seasons yet.

“It’s probably for others to say, but personally I believe I’m playing the best football of my career.

“I’ve gained more experience as I have got older and I believe the Premier League has made me a better player.

“It suits me because it is not such a physical league. There is only minimal contact allowed and, not being the biggest of lads, it does help!”
