TIP Dead flats man in cop chem­i­cal alert

THREE po­lice­men were over­come by fumes af­ter the de­com­pos­ing body of a man sparked a chem­i­cal alert at a 13-storey apart­ment block.

The of­fi­cers were taken to hospi­tal af­ter be­ing called to a first floor flat fol­low­ing a tip-off from a neigh­bour about the oc­cu­pant’s wel­fare.

Up to 12 fire­fight­ers ar­rived at the high rise block in Miles Plat­ting, Gtr Manch­ester and evac­u­ated the prop­erty while they set up a ‘de­con­tam­i­na­tion zone’.

The fire­fight­ers in pro­tec­tive suits and gas masks broke down the door be­fore find­ing the un­named man’s body in­side. He may have been dead for two weeks and the cause of death is not yet known.

Greater Manch­ester Po­lice said although the of­fi­cers were treated in hospi­tal there were no ma­jor con­cerns for them.
