TIP Dead flats man in cop chemical alert
THREE policemen were overcome by fumes after the decomposing body of a man sparked a chemical alert at a 13-storey apartment block.
The officers were taken to hospital after being called to a first floor flat following a tip-off from a neighbour about the occupant’s welfare.
Up to 12 firefighters arrived at the high rise block in Miles Platting, Gtr Manchester and evacuated the property while they set up a ‘decontamination zone’.
The firefighters in protective suits and gas masks broke down the door before finding the unnamed man’s body inside. He may have been dead for two weeks and the cause of death is not yet known.
Greater Manchester Police said although the officers were treated in hospital there were no major concerns for them.
