COUN­CIL­LORS in one of Bri­tain’s FAT­TEST cities are to lose their sub­sidised BA­CON BUTTIES – af­ter it was re­vealed tax­pay­ers forked out more than £122,000 a year on grub.

Glas­gow City Coun­cil chiefs will axe their din­ing room to make way for a com­mer­cial cafe.

Labour lead­ers only agreed to dump the perk af­ter mil­lions in cut­backs for coun­cil tax­pay­ers.

City Trea­surer Paul Rooney said: “It is no longer the best way to pro­vide ca­ter­ing for the City Cham­bers.”

Coun­cil­lors gorged on the buf­fet for free un­til 2007 when they started earn­ing a wage.

Since then they have made mod­est con­tri­bu­tions – a two-course meal is £3.50. Ba­con on a roll is just £1. A 2007 sur­vey by

mag­a­zine found that Glas­gow is Bri­tain’s fifth fat­test city.
