Fat’s your lot, councillors!
COUNCILLORS in one of Britain’s FATTEST cities are to lose their subsidised BACON BUTTIES – after it was revealed taxpayers forked out more than £122,000 a year on grub.
Glasgow City Council chiefs will axe their dining room to make way for a commercial cafe.
Labour leaders only agreed to dump the perk after millions in cutbacks for council taxpayers.
City Treasurer Paul Rooney said: “It is no longer the best way to provide catering for the City Chambers.”
Councillors gorged on the buffet for free until 2007 when they started earning a wage.
Since then they have made modest contributions – a two-course meal is £3.50. Bacon on a roll is just £1. A 2007 survey by
magazine found that Glasgow is Britain’s fifth fattest city.
