Rope dope bridge dare led to 5k bill
A BOOZY prankster left dangling from a footbridge above a main road as part of a daft bet cost taxpayers nearly £5,000.
Lee Bassett appeared before magistrates in Plymouth, Devon, where he admitted causing danger to road users.
Bassett, 29, from Plymouth, was arrested on January 24 after cops found him with a rope around his waist hanging barely eight feet over three lanes of traffic.
Prosecutor Will Rose said: “Police were there for at least 90 minutes. Spiderman, Mr Bassett is not.”
Mr Rose said when he spoke to police Bassett said it was ‘a bet that went wrong’ and admitted having ‘had a few jars’.
Mr Rose added: “As a result of this bizarre prank it cost the public purse £4,875.” Bassett will be sentenced next month.
