European Union’s seven-year budget framework was finally agreed recently – but all is not good for Brit taxpayers.
When one looks beyond the headlines things are rather different.
While this was indeed the first cut ever in the EU budget ceiling, with spending going down by more than 3% compared to current levels, the UK is set to pay more, with some predicting an increase in our payments of up to 6.3%!
David Cameron stated in a press conference afterwards that “our contributions [to the EU budget] were always going to go up”. AMID historic scenes of jubilation the juggernaut that is the EU was supposedly halted in its tracks by an agreement to actually cut its gigantic budget for the first time.
But was the unbridled joy of our Prime Minister at the apparently unique achievement justified? You simply need to know that the politicians from all parties and nations across the continent hailed it – which means the smell of rat should be overpowering.
Sure enough, the wishes of the people are likely to be swept aside by bureaucrats, and the “cut” will wind up costing us. But whether it’s over budgets, immigration rules, laws, trading standards, and more, the EU is blighting Britain.
