Day trippers’ horror after travellers go on fight spree
ARMED gypsies rampaged through a seaside resort after in-fighting spilled out from a traveller’s site.
Elderly couples and young families had the peace of a day trip shattered by violence.
At a makeshift campsite a row erupted between two men in a white Transit van and the altercation quickly turned nasty, prompting a huge police response.
One of the men, wearing a skull hat, hoodie and tracksuit bottoms, apparently went beserk and started smashing up the the vehicle from the inside, causing the driver to flee.
A horrified onlooker at the scene near the Esplanade in Southport, Merseyside, said: “There was a lot of shouting and I saw a man run off and another man holding a large pole.”
Police officers turned up at the scene where around half a dozen caravans are pitched but no traveller would co-operate.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “Officers attended a disturbance at the Esplanade in Southport and spoke to a number of travellers at the site.”
