Target: PLO leaders x 3 Location: Beirut, Lebanon Date: 28/04/1978

IT’S hard to imagine posh boy David Cameron tottering around in drag while slotting terrorists with a sub-machine gun. But that’s what former Israeli president Ehud Barak did during his time in Mossad.

This was a nutty operation, called Spring of Youth, with the aim of assassinating three senior PLO terrorists linked to the Munich massacre at the 1972 Olympics.

Mossad had tracked them down to a beach-side apartment in Beirut. The elite fighters were dropped off via the sea in Zodiac boats and half of them then donned high-heels, wigs and dresses.

The fighters then split into pairs and pretended to be young lovers.

For weeks, the Mossad tough-guys had rehearsed playing the part of loved-up ladies – practising holding hands and kissing.

But it worked, none of the PLO guards spotted what was about to happen.

A bomb planted in the entrance to the apartment was triggered to begin the assault. The ‘ ladies’ whipped out sub-machine guns from underneath their skirts and charged the building, smashing their way into the terrorists’ flats and gunning them down.

They were met with massive resistance from PLO guards and Lebanese police – and after a 30-minute battle around 90 PLO fighters were either wounded or dead. Just two of the 24 Mossad agents died as they escaped back to the beach and sped off on boats.

After slipping into something less comfortable, Barack went on to become Israeli prime minister and still serves as the Minister of Defence.
