1,700 cup for coffee shop jobs

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

A STAGGERING 1,700 people have applied for just EIGHT jobs going in one cafe.

Coffee chain Costa received an astounding 212 applications for each post at a new branch.

Many were from sacked HMV or Clintons workers, stores which have recently been hit by administration and a massive dip in sales.

Some of the applicants for the jobs in Nottingham city centre have had up to 15 years’ experience in retail.

It’s thrown new unemployment figures into question – as ministers say jobless figures are falling.

TUC general Secretary Frances O’Grady says the huge number of applicants highlights the employment crisis gripping the nation.

He said: “These figures show just how desperate people are for any kind of work.

“Ministers claim there are plenty of jobs out there but the reality is there are far more people chasing those jobs.”

The jobs at Costa were paying just £5.40 an hour.
