Charlie tools up in the war against terror

Midweek Sport - - IN THIS WEEK'S SENSATIONAL -

PRINCE Charles and Camilla are set to be given a £300,000 bulletproof car to protect them against the Taliban.

The space-age, armour-plated BMW is equipped with a range of anti-terror devices that could save the royal couple’s lives in the event of ambush.

Capable of deflecting gunfire and poison gas, the James Bond-style vehicle is being tested by Scotland Yard cops.

The BMW 760 includes bulletproof windscreens as well as an “assault alarm” that will automatically put out fires.

If its sensors detect poison gas, the alarm automatically shuts the windows and air vents and triggers the central locking system.

It also has hidden microphones and speakers that allow the driver and bodyguards to communicate with people outside the vehicle without having to wind down windows.

Dai Davies, a former head of royal protection at Scotland Yard, said: “This is by far the best security car of its kind.”
