Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

THE parents of April Jones must wait another two months before the man accused of their daughter’s kidnap and murder goes on trial.

The trial of Mark Bridger, 47, ( above) had been scheduled to start this week at Mold Crown Court, nearly five months after the five-year-old went missing while playing near her home in Machynlleth, Mid Wales.

But Mr Justice Griffith-Williams agreed to a defence application for the case to be delayed for “further inquiries” to be carried out.

April Jones, who suffered a mild form of cerebral palsy, had been playing on her bicycle with friends in the Bryn-y-Gog estate when she vanished on October 1 last year.

Mr Bridger, who lived in Ceinws has pleaded not guilty to unlawfully abducting April on October 1, 2012, murdering her and perverting the course of justice by disposing, destroying or concealing the child’s body.
