Remembrance tin thief jailed
A WOMAN thief who was caught on CCTV stealing a poppy tin on Remembrance Sunday has been jailed
Iulia Olteanu, 31, was been sentenced to 84 days in prison for stealing three poppy collection tins in little over an hour.
She had been operating with a man, believed to be Liviu Ghitoi, who is still wanted by police.
The thefts were committed at three shops in Rochford and Hockley, in Essex, on November 11 last year.
Olteanu of Barking, Essex, appeared before Southend JPs where she pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.
Veteran Alfred Fowler, 89, from Southend, said: “It is despicable. I can’t understand the mentality of these people. ”
Police are still hunting for Liviu Ghitoi whose last known address was in Barking, East London.
