FIERY PUNTER TORCHED BROTHEL WHICH REFUSED HIS £3 OFFER FOR SEX
A PUNTER was jailed yesterday for starting a fire in a brothel after offering £3 for sex.
When the woman refused “tipsy” Jan Koperdak, he swore at her and returned that night with fuel in a bottle – only to be caught on film by anti-vice cops.
Two women escaped unscathed from the terraced house in Derby after flames were spotted one night in August.
Slovakian Koperdak was jailed for seven years six months and was told by Judge Jonathan Gosling: “You had a petty argument and set out on a course of revenge.
“Drunk as you were, you can be seen making sure at the critical moment no-one was around before you pushed fuel through the front door.
“This is a crime you planned with some care.
“You did it under cover of darkness, you obtained a plastic bottle designed to fit in the letterbox.
“You filled it with some sort of inflammable liquid. You inserted a makeshift wick.
“You knew the house was occupied and even if you didn’t, it was clear from the internal lights. You intended to start a fire with them inside.
“This was a terraced house and the risk of rapid escalation of the fire is obvious.”
Koperdak was found guilty of arson which recklessly endangered life.
James Horne, defending, told Derby Crown Court that Koperdak had never been in trouble before.
“He is a father-of-two and there is little doubt he has supported them over the years through being a hardworking man,” he said.
Koperdak admitted going to prostitutes “two or three times a year” but said he had never called on the two women.
