REGGAE star Smiley Culture killed himself during a police raid, an inquest has ruled.

The 48-year-old – real name David Emmanuel ( above) – died from a single stab wound to the heart while in the kitchen of his Warlingham home.

The Brixton-born singer who shot to fame with Police Officer in the 80s, was visited by officers on March 15 last year and arrested on suspicion of importing Class A drugs.

The inquest into his death held at Woking Borough Council’s Civic Office, heard he was with an officer when he stabbed himself.

Returning their verdict after three days of deliberation, the jury said: “Giving one officer the responsibility to supervise Mr Emmanuel and at the same time completing the premises search book, was a contributing factor in his death.”
