Barber denies bottle attack on rival after customer row
A BARBER beat up a rival hairdresser with a pole and a beer bottle in a row over customers, a court heard.
Melusi Sithole, 35, threatened trainee hairdresser Salah Barani during a tea break before unleashing a ‘vicious’ attack that left him with a cut ear, shoulder wound and amnesia, Newport Crown Court heard.
Sithole, from the Big Daddy’s barber shop in Newport, South Wales, was stood by the door of Barani’s rival salon next door and told off a customer for not going to his shop, a jury heard.
The court heard that Barani, owner of the Pill barber shop, previously worked at Big Daddy’s in Commercial Road but left to set up his own business two weeks earlier.
Mr Barani, 29, told the court he suffers from memory loss 18 months after the alleged attack on January 6 last year.
It is alleged that Sithole struck Barani with a beer bottle on the side of his head, punched and kicked him on the floor, then hit him with a metal pole used for shelving.
Sithole denies one count of wounding with intent and one count of possessing an offensive weapon.
