Bar­ber de­nies bot­tle at­tack on ri­val af­ter cus­tomer row

A BAR­BER beat up a ri­val hair­dresser with a pole and a beer bot­tle in a row over cus­tomers, a court heard.

Melusi Sit­hole, 35, threat­ened trainee hair­dresser Salah Barani dur­ing a tea break be­fore un­leash­ing a ‘vi­cious’ at­tack that left him with a cut ear, shoul­der wound and am­ne­sia, New­port Crown Court heard.

Sit­hole, from the Big Daddy’s bar­ber shop in New­port, South Wales, was stood by the door of Barani’s ri­val salon next door and told off a cus­tomer for not go­ing to his shop, a jury heard.

The court heard that Barani, owner of the Pill bar­ber shop, pre­vi­ously worked at Big Daddy’s in Com­mer­cial Road but left to set up his own busi­ness two weeks ear­lier.

Mr Barani, 29, told the court he suf­fers from mem­ory loss 18 months af­ter the al­leged at­tack on Jan­uary 6 last year.

It is al­leged that Sit­hole struck Barani with a beer bot­tle on the side of his head, punched and kicked him on the floor, then hit him with a me­tal pole used for shelv­ing.

Sit­hole de­nies one count of wound­ing with in­tent and one count of pos­sess­ing an of­fen­sive weapon.
