Adrian tells Bristow: ‘This one’s for Lew’
ADRIAN LEWIS celebrated winning his first major title for 18 months by telling critic Eric Bristow: “This one’s for you.”
The two-time world champion had not claimed any other big title until he defeated Simon Whitlock in Sunday’s European Championship.
Stoke’s Lewis also knocked out Michael van Gerwen and Andy Hamilton on his way to the crown.
Having dropped to third in the PDC Order of Merit this year, Bristow said Lewis would continue to drop down the rankings.
Lewis responded to his triumph in Germany by saying: “I love it when I can silence the doubters.
“Only last week, Eric said I’d never win another major – so this one’s for him!
“I’ve had some ups and downs in the last 18 months and I’m on the up again.
“I’ve been practising really hard for a long time now and it’s paid off last weekend – but I want to kick on now.
“Michael van Gerwen’s been the best player in the world in the last six months and deserves to have gone above me in the rankings, but I’m after him again now.”
