INCE LEADS U-21 CHASE
PAUL INCE is the favourite to land the England Under-21s manager’s job.
“The Guv’nor” has been boss of Blackpool since February, but he is open to taking over from Stuart Pearce after the Young Lions crashed out of the Euros this summer in humiliating style.
Tough-tackling midfielder Ince (above) won 53 caps for England and he would be a popular choice amongst both players and fans.
Ex-Seasiders gaffer Michael Appleton is also in the running for the position, along with Gareth Southgate and Peter Taylor.
And former Three Lions boss Steve McClaren, now a coach at QPR, is also on new FA Chairman Greg Dyke’s shortlist.
It is expected a final decision will be made later this summer, with Dyke having time to get his feet under the table at FA headquarters before making his first major appointment in the post.
