‘Drink drive’ Wilkins: I’m not a vil­lain

FOR­MER Eng­land footie star Ray Wilkins has de­nied telling cops he was a “vil­lain” when he was ar­rested for sus­pected drink-driv­ing, a court heard yes­ter­day.

The ex-Chelsea star was stopped as he drove home from an awards bash in the early hours of May 6 last year.

The 56-year-old, it is al­leged, smelled strongly of drink and was abu­sive to of­fi­cers in the cus­tody suite as he gave breath tests which showed he was around three times over the limit.

Staines Mag­is­trates’ Court heard the Sky Sports pun­dit propped him­self up against the car and slurred his words.

Paul Lund, prose­cut­ing, said: “You were ar­rested for drink-driv­ing, you say, ‘I’m a vil­lain, I’m bang out of or­der, I will ad­mit that’,” which Wilkins de­nied say­ing.

Wilkins, of Cob­ham, Sur­rey, also de­nies the drink-driv­ing charge.
