‘Drink drive’ Wilkins: I’m not a villain
FORMER England footie star Ray Wilkins has denied telling cops he was a “villain” when he was arrested for suspected drink-driving, a court heard yesterday.
The ex-Chelsea star was stopped as he drove home from an awards bash in the early hours of May 6 last year.
The 56-year-old, it is alleged, smelled strongly of drink and was abusive to officers in the custody suite as he gave breath tests which showed he was around three times over the limit.
Staines Magistrates’ Court heard the Sky Sports pundit propped himself up against the car and slurred his words.
Paul Lund, prosecuting, said: “You were arrested for drink-driving, you say, ‘I’m a villain, I’m bang out of order, I will admit that’,” which Wilkins denied saying.
Wilkins, of Cobham, Surrey, also denies the drink-driving charge.
