GET ready for the RANDIEST month of the year.

August is the most popular month for sexual activity – chosen by 18 per cent of couples.

The most dismal month, perhaps surprisingly, is February – when we have Valentine’s Day – though that could be because it is the shortest month and there is less opportunity to have sex.

Just 2 per cent of couples said they had the most sex then – the long winter nights clearly not inspiring couples to slip off to bed early.

Lovehoney – the online sex toy retailer – polled 2,175 people to find the months when we had the most sex.

The statistics show that 75 per cent of people are happy with their sex lives.

The five sexiest months are August (chosen by 18% of couples), July (14%), June (10%), May (6%) and December (5%).

The least sexy month is February (2%), followed by November, January, March and October. The one month in the winter which bucks the trend towards the cold weather meaning less sex is December.

Five per cent of couples chose December as the sexiest month – mistletoe must be a powerful aphrodisiac for some.

The findings are supported by science.

In the winter we have more melatonin, leading to lower sex drive, depression and lethargy.

Tests showed men had 33 per cent more testosterone flowing through their bodies in June than in January.

Men with more testosterone have more orgasms.

In other words, more sun spells more and better sex.

And a study by scientists at the University of South Brittany in France found that we are more likely to FLIRT when the sun is out.

The research showed that girls were more likely to give out their phone number when approached by an attractive male when the weather was good rather than overcast.

Lovehoney co-founder Richard Longhurst said: “We have just had the bleakest winter in history, but now the sun is out and we are all feeling frisky!

“The sun shining changes everyone’s moods and means we wear far fewer clothes.

“It’s much easier to flirt and have fun when the weather is warm – and that means a lot more of us are getting it on.”

Lovehoney’s sales grew by more than 40 per cent last year, thanks to the Fifty Shades of Grey sex boom.

Sales have continued to rocket this year after it won the worldwide franchise for the Official Fifty Shades pleasure collection, the only one approved by the trilogy’s author E L James.

It is racking up record figures in America after going on sale.
