SHARK BITES GIRL IN TWO

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has been killed after a shark “bit her in half” while she swam in the Indian Ocean.

The horror attack happened as the girl snorkelled just five metres from the shore on the French island of Reunion – near Mauritius and Madagascar.

The teen – on holiday from mainland France – was with another girl, who escaped.

The pair were in a cove at Saint-Paul, on the north west of the island, where bathing is forbidden due to the high numbers of sharks.

Gina Hoarau, director of public safety in Saint-Paul, said: “Part of her body was carried away by the shark.”

It is the second deadly shark attack this year off the French island and brings the total of shark-related deaths there since 2011 to five.

It is the first time in at least three decades that a swimmer, rather than a surfer, was killed.
