Becks begs Wayne to stay at United

Midweek Sport - - ON THE NOSE - By MIKE MCGRATH

DAVID BECKHAM has begged Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United.

Goldenballs admits the striker’s decision is in his own hands after falling out with Alex Ferguson last season.

But he is desperate for Rooney to remain for the sake of the club’s fans.

Red Devils legend Becks said: “I hope he stays as Wayne is such a talented player and I see him as a Manchester United player.

“It will be his decision and his decision only, but as a Manchester United fan I want the best players at the club and I hope he stays.”

Beckham insists United can win the Premier League title again next season despite Fergie leaving and David Moyes taking charge.

He added: “It will be interesting this year as there have been so many changes in the Premier League.

“Jose Mourinho coming back to Chelsea is exciting, but I still think United are going to win the league.

“I think David Moyes has had a lot of mentoring from Sir Alex Ferguson over the years and I’m sure he has been one of these managers who has always picked up the phone to the boss.

“Whoever took over at United, it was always going to be a difficult job because of what the boss brought to the club and the game around the world.

“But the same players are there and I’m sure there will be a few more added over the next few weeks.”

Beckham, 38, is exploring the prospect of owning an MLS team in America.

But plenty of his former United team-mates are still at the club – and he reckons that is why Moyes will fine. He added: “That is what is important about a legacy and United have the biggest.

“When you talk about legacy, you have Ryan Giggs who has been there for so many years and who players go to.

“Phil Neville has gone back – he is such a talented person and coach.

“Gary Neville was involved, Nicky Butt is still there. There are so many young players who respect them. It is important to have that.”
