Chris Vill be in the shit if he tekes time off

CHRISTIAN BENTEKE is facing a hefty fine if he fails to return to Aston Villa tomorrow.

The Tottenham and Chelsea target is due to report back for pre-season training in 24 hours, but he wants a deal to be struck before then to avoid a possible backlash from his team-mates.

Villa, however, are adamant they will not be bullied into selling him and will only agree a move for the player – who still has three years left on his contract – on their terms.

Benteke, who earns around £20,000 a week, could be docked two weeks’ wages if he disobeys Villa’s orders and is a no-show tomorrow.

He has already been given the green light for extra time off after spending the early part of the summer on international duty with Belgium.

The 22-year-old has form for such stunts after going on strike at his then-club Genk to force through an £8million move to Villa last August.

Benteke has his heart set on Spurs, who are prepared to TRIPLE his salary – way more than Villa have put on the table.

Paul Lambert is keeping tabs on Dutch league hitmen Luc Castaignos and Alfred Finnbogason as a back-up plan to replace wantaway Benteke.

Former Inter Milan and Feyenoord forward Castaignos, 20, has impressed in Eredivisie for FC Twente, netting 13 goals last season.

Iceland international Finnbogason, 24, caught the eye at Heerenveen with 24 goals.

Tottenham lead the chase for £25m-rated Benteke, who put in a transfer request last week.

Villa skipper Ron Vlaar insists they can have a much improved campaign after signing a host of new players.

Nicklas Helenius, Jed Steer, Antonio Luna, Leandro Bacuna, Aleksandar Tonev and Jores Okore have already arrived during a busy summer at Villa Park.

“They are really good players,” said Vlaar.

“We look forward to a better season.”
