Clement passes Martinez test
EVERTON are poised to launch a raid for Paris St Germain midfielder Clement Chantome to avoid being left high and dry by Marouane Fellaini.
The Toffees are wary that if Man United or Arsenal meet their £23million buyout clause for Fellaini, it could leave them short of midfield options.
And boss Roberto Martinez has targeted Chantome as the ideal replacement should the big-haired Belgian leave Goodison Park.
Chantome, who has been capped once by France, won the French title with PSG last season and his range of passing appeals to Martinez.
And the player admits his future is uncertain after Carlo Ancelotti left PSG for Real Madrid and was replaced by Laurent Blanc.
“After last season, I feel that I have experienced what I wanted to with the club,” said Chantome.
“It has become easier to make a decision. I want to play more and play in big matches.
“I want to experience something else. PSG is not my whole life. The best solution could be to stay in Ligue 1, but England would be attractive as well.”
Everton midfielder Leon Osman reckons Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic will return with a bang after a big dip in form last season.
“Perhaps he’s had a good summer or he’s just happy to see us, but he seems lively and raring to go,” said Osman.
