ROD’S TOFFEES TEMPTER
EVERTON are poised to make an audacious offer to bring Jack Rodwell back on loan.
The midfielder joined Man City from the Toffees in a £15million deal last summer but struggled for form and fitness after his arrival at the Etihad. Rodwell played only 11 Premier League games, although he ended the season with a flourish by scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Norwich on the last day of the campaign. New City boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to hang on to Rodwell (left) but is be ready to allow the player to rebuild his confidence with a loan move.
Everton are in the market for midfield reinforcements with the future of Marouane Fellaini still up in the air.
And after missing out on Japan star Keisuke Honda to AC Milan, Toffees chief Roberto Martinez is eyeing a loan swoop for Rodwell.
The 22-year-old wants regular football to secure an England spot for the 2014 World Cup.
Tim Howard says he will relish the competition from Joel Robles.
Martinez snapped up Robles from Atletico Madrid to give USA goalkeeper Howard a rival.
But the Yank said: “In order to achieve great things, you need quality in numbers. I don’t think anyone fears competition.”
